Registrations Still Being Accepted

Registrations are still being accepted for Stratford Rotary Hockey's 2009-2010 season. However, the June 24 deadline has passed so a $25 late fee applies for each registration.

You can download a registration form below and mail it in with your cheque.

**If travel hockey is a possibility for your child, read the information below on Hockey Canada's new position on "outlaw leagues", including Stratford Rotary Hockey. **

"Outlaw" League Reprieve
  Tue, Apr 7th, 2009

Hockey Canada has modified the sanctions it will apply to children participating in so-called "Outlaw Leagues", including Stratford Rotary Hockey. Outlaw Leagues are those which operate independently and are not sanctioned by Hockey Canada.

A Hockey Canada bulletin from May 21 states that "Any individual who participates (knowingly or otherwise) in "outlaw" programs after September 30 of the season in question will lose all membership privileges with Hockey Canada for the remainder of that season..."

Rotary Hockey players, therefore, will not be eligible to play in a Hockey Canada program (any travel hockey in the Stratford area) in the SAME season as they play Rotary Hockey. Rotary Hockey players may no longer be called up to play with travel teams as an affiliate player. However, players may reapply to return to a Hockey Canada program once the Rotary Hockey season is over.

Stratford Rotary Hockey is committed to remaining a well-organized, inexpensive, community-oriented and fun house league for all to enjoy. We do not believe that the label "outlaw" is justified or fairly describes our program, which has operated for more than 60 years in the city.

However, we are pleased that Hockey Canada has seen fit to reduce the sanctions to players, who had previously faced the threat of being barred from travel hockey for the season following their participation with Rotary Hockey.

Hockey Canada also is taking measures to ensure that its sanctioned leagues do not support or assist outlaw leagues in any way. Read the entire Hockey Canada bulletin HERE.

Thinking of Others
  Sun, Apr 26th, 2009

Rotary Hockey thanks Joshua Zelek for raising approximately $480 to help other young hockey players participate in the upcoming season.

Instead of gifts for his eighth birthday, Joshua asked friends to donate money that would be used to assist families who are struggling financially with the cost of Rotary Hockey registration for their son or daughter.

The money he raised will be used by Rotary Hockey to make sure no young boy or girl is denied an opportunity to enjoy the game of hockey because of finances.
